Working with Keanu Reeves on "Man of Tai Chi"

Man of Tai Chi starring Keanu Reeves
Last year I was very lucky to get a really awesome and unusual job - working on the set of Man of Tai Chi directed and starred in by Keanu Reeves!

It started when my friend asked me if I'd like to come along to assist with the aerial shooting for the film, which resulted in me joining the reconnaissance flights with the assistant director and acting as ground crew for the helicopter. Then after chatting with the Locations Manager for a while I found out that they were still missing a key location for the final shooting days - an underground car park. I decided to offer my services! A few days later and after a lot of phone calls to old friends, I had their property booked - the basement car park of Exchange Tower, a landmark building from Sino Land in Kowloon Bay.

Shortly after that I got invited to be on set again, this time for the green screen shooting at the legendary Shaw Studios in Tseung Kwan O. It was an incredibly exciting night! Apart from getting to watch them building machines that would spin and implode cars and erect three storeys of green screen, it was also the same night that Typhoon Vicente hit, the first typhoon to reach T10 (the highest signal) since 1999! We worked right through the typhoon and when we left at 5am in the morning trees were blown all over the roads and destruction and debris was everywhere. Despite that, it was a fantastic night. Just incredible to watch some of the most dramatic scenes of the film come together whilst the typhoon raged around us. At the end we took the crew photos and you can just about spot me hiding on the left hand side:

After we wrapped the shooting though the fun wasn't entirely over, as I got asked to help out on one final duty: organising the wrap party! Can't have a film shoot without a wrap party and with aviation still in mind, we decided to have ours at The Aviation Club located at the old airport in Kai Tak. It was a great fun night with a live Blues & Funk band, lots of delicious food and most importantly plenty of alcohol. We even had a photo booth with all kinds of bizarre props like knight's helmets and swords to take photos of ourselves with. Everyone had a great time and Keanu and his team were able to relax and let off some steam.

Here we are at the after party (no idea why I look so miserable about what was actually a great night):

Anti - Smoking Sweets vs Anti - Smoking Campaign!

The other day we came across the most odd and awesome named candies: "Okuda No-Smoking Candy" and since we are good friends with Micheal Chan who is the official face of the Government's most recent anti-smoking campaign (yet is a smoker himself), we thought it would be a VERY good idea to put these Anti - Smoking Candies to the test. And the test was:

Anti - Smoking Sweets vs. Anti - Smoking Campaign of the Hong Kong Government , to see which was truly more effective in stopping people from smoking for good.

To see the results of our little experiment check out the video below:

Simon Birch Film Project

A couple of weeks ago on a Sunday, I had a very interesting day indeed!

In fact I spent that Sunday acting in Simon Birch's new film project as Matthew Barney, a famous US artist who's best known for the Cremaster Cycle and the Drawing Restraint series.

I'm sure you all know who Simon Birch is, but in case you don't I can tell you that he is an amazing artist who produces inspired and original work. Check out one of his pieces:

You can also click on his name above to check out more of his work.

At any rate, Simon has recently been invited to put together the largest private art installation in Hong Kong by Swire Properties. It will include a selection of paintings, sculptures and the very same film project which I had the pleasure of holding a small role in. Lots of other interesting people came down to get involved in the project and I thought I'd post a few photos here.

Race Wong 黃婉伶 Fast Forward Trailer

Well things are really coming together with Project Race and getting more exciting by the day!

One of the most exciting developments of this last week was the launch of our first official trailer video, Fast Forward, shot by Arne Venema and Jona Chung Dha Lam and edited by Arne. It really helps to bring together a lot of the background footage of the recording sessions and shows both the seriousness and the fun on an amazing creative project. Thanks for putting this together guys!

Check it out:

Featured in the video are of course Race Wong, Kelvin Avon (Afreex), Jennifer Chiang, Candy Lo Hau-Yam 盧巧音, Arne Venema, Chan Wing Him and even myself (hiding in the background).

It took several weeks to capture all this footage, hence you can really see the creative process coming together. Apologies that we are not yet ready to release more of the music, but don't worry it will be seeing more of it here very soon.

Here are some background photos taken over the same weeks as the video was coming together.

My Life

It's time to tell the story of my life at last...

In disjointed, non-chronological, haphazard fashion.

By major events? By accidents / illnesses? By Love? By changes? By religions? By age? By learning? By philosophy? By growth?

So many ways to tell the story of a life...

But I think I won't follow any rules. I will just write it as I write it. Sometimes in a single pattern, sometimes in another, sometimes in none at all.

I shall write it as I am.

I shall write it as Spencer Douglass.
